The OWL ontology browser used in the DMO Foundry is a customized version of the University of Manchester's Ontology Browser. We have implemented additional functionality needed to display data mining ontologies. In particular, it allows for the display of Latex mathematical formulas through the use of the JLatexMath package . Latex formulas are displayed as annotation properties to store important data mining concepts that cannot be expressed as a combination of OWL classes and properties in the current state of the technology.
Below is a screenshot of the DMO Browser's display of CFS-Merit, the heuristic feature set evaluation function used in M. Hall's CFS feature selection algorithm:
Although the mathematical formulas in the Annotation Property are not machine processable, they are of considerable utility to data mining specialists who use the ontology.
